Diamond D
Hatred, Passions And Infidelity (Instrumental Vinyl)

Listening notes

Diamond D's *Hatred, Passions And Infidelity (Instrumental Vinyl)* was released in 1997 on Mercury Records under catalog number MELP 172. The release is a double-LP instrumental version of the hip-hop album, spread across four sides and thirteen tracks.

The format is straightforward: Side A opens with "Flowin'" at 2:50 and runs through "MC Iz My Ambition" (4:03) and "No Wonduh (The Projects)" (3:51). Side B carries four tracks — "The Hiatus (LP Version)," "J.D.'s Revenge," "Painz & Strife," and "Can't Keep My Grands To Myself" — running between 3:08 and 3:50 each. Side C moves into longer territory, with "5 Fingas Of Death" clocking in at 4:53, followed by "This One" at 4:01 and "Never" at 4:27. Side D closes the record with "Cream N Sunshine," "Gather Round," and "On Stage," the latter running 4:16.

Total runtime across the thirteen tracks comes to just under 50 minutes, distributed reasonably evenly across the four sides. The tracklist note of "LP Version" appended to "The Hiatus" suggests at least that track existed in more than one edit, though what distinguishes the versions is not indicated by the available information.

The instrumental format places the release in a specific and identifiable corner of hip-hop vinyl documentation. Rather than presenting the album with vocals, it isolates the production as its own artifact. Whether this release was intended primarily for DJs, collectors, or some other purpose is not something the available facts support speculating about.
