DJ Premier
Official Serato Control Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 2014 on Serato Pressings, the DJ Premier Official Serato Control Vinyl (catalog number SCV-SP-034) is a two-record vinyl set that sits at the intersection of hip hop and digital DJ technology. The release pairs original audio content from the veteran producer with the functional control tone that defines the Serato Scratch Live ecosystem.

Each of the two records shares an identical tracklist. The A-side opens with "My Influence" and "Chemical Burn," followed by two exclusive instrumentals: "Spaced Dem Mo (Exclusive Instrumental)" and "SCARZ FACE (Exclusive Instrumental)." The designation of those two tracks as exclusive instrumentals is noted in the tracklist itself, distinguishing them from material available elsewhere. The B-side of each record is occupied entirely by the Serato Control Tone CV2.5, running at twelve minutes — the timecoded signal that allows Serato software to interpret the movement of a physical record and translate it into digital playback control.

The structure of this release reflects the dual purpose that defines the Serato control vinyl format as a product category. Rather than functioning solely as a collector's record or solely as a utilitarian DJ tool, it combines both roles on the same pressing. The A-side content is attributed to DJ Premier, a figure long associated with hip hop production, while the B-side delivers the technical tone required for Serato-based performance. The duplication of this layout across both records in the set is consistent with standard Serato control vinyl configuration, which typically requires two matched records for full software functionality.

The release falls under the hip hop genre and was issued under the Serato Pressings imprint, a label associated with official Serato DJ products. No track durations are documented in available catalog data.
