DJ Ransom
15.Oz Vinyl - 15 Years Of Australian Hip-Hop On Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 2004 on Crookneck Records (catalog number CROOK009), DJ Ransom's 15.Oz Vinyl - 15 Years Of Australian Hip-Hop On Vinyl is a CD release catalogued under the Cut-up/DJ and Hip Hop genres. The title frames the project explicitly as a survey of fifteen years of Australian hip-hop, situating it as a document of that scene's history up to its release date.

The disc runs to 31 tracks, several of which are notably brief. Nine tracks clock in at under two minutes, including "Raw Cause" at 1:02 and "Open Up Your Mind" at exactly one minute, suggesting a mix or cut-and-paste structure consistent with the Cut-up/DJ genre classification. The longest track is "One More From The City (A.S.K.'s Concord West Refix)" at 3:55, one of the few tracks whose title explicitly credits an outside contribution in the form of a refix. "BBQ Song" appears twice across the tracklist, once as a full track at 2:16 and again as a shorter 57-second excerpt titled "BBQ Song (Verse)."

Track titles across the 31-track sequence include "Combined Talent," "Sheer Talent," "Front Bar Battles," "Dust Off The Mic," "Poetry In Motion," and "You Can't Deny Genetics," among others. The full running order spans a considerable range of titles in tone and subject.

The release was issued by Crookneck Records, whose catalog number sequence places this at CROOK009. No additional personnel, pressing, or distribution information is available from the verified facts on hand.
