Jonwayne
Rap Album Two

Listening notes

Jonwayne's Rap Album Two arrived in 2017 on Authors / The Order Label, catalogued as ARC002LP. Released on vinyl, the record collects twelve hip hop tracks spread across two sides, running from brief, focused cuts to more extended pieces that give the album a varied internal rhythm.

Side A opens with "TED Talk" at three minutes and forty-seven seconds, followed by "Live From The Fuck You," which comes in just under three minutes. "Human Condition" and "Out Of Sight" continue the run, the latter being the longest track on the side at four minutes and twenty-seven seconds. "The Single" is notably brief at one minute and thirty-nine seconds, while "Paper" and "City Lights" bring the side to a close, the final track landing at three minutes and fifty-three seconds.

Side B shifts the pacing somewhat. "Rainbow" opens at just over three minutes before giving way to "Afraid Of Us," the album's longest track at seven minutes and twenty-four seconds, which stands out by some distance from the surrounding material. "Blue Green" follows at three minutes and forty-three seconds, then "Hills" arrives as another short piece at one minute and forty-eight seconds. The record closes with "These Words Are Everything," a five-minute-and-eleven-second track that gives the album a weightier ending relative to much of what precedes it.

Across both sides, the tracklist moves between shorter and longer pieces with some consistency, and the sequencing places the most extended track, "Afraid Of Us," toward the interior of the second side rather than at its close. The release was issued under catalog number ARC002LP, situating it within the Authors / The Order Label catalog.
