Peanut Butter Wolf
My Vinyl Weighs A Ton

Listening notes

Peanut Butter Wolf's My Vinyl Weighs A Ton arrived on Stones Throw Records in 2007 under catalog number STH 2017, issued in the hip-hop and turntablism genres on vinyl. The release spreads across four sides — labeled This Side, Other Side, This Side, and Other Side — accommodating twenty tracks in total, a scope that the double-LP format makes practical.

The sequencing across the four sides covers a range of running times. Side A opens with the fifteen-second "Sit Down And Shut Up" before moving into "In Your Area" at two minutes and twenty-five seconds, then the nearly six-minute "Styles, Crews, Flows, Beats" and the three-minute-fifty-second "Casio." Side B balances longer cuts like "Hold Up" and "Breaks Em Down" against brief interludes — "The Everliving" runs forty-two seconds, and "Top Illin'" clocks in at just twenty-two seconds. This pattern of full tracks interrupted by short pieces continues across the record.

Side C is anchored by "Tale Of Five Cities," the longest track on the album at eight minutes and fifty seconds, followed by "Definition Of Ill" and the under-a-minute "Theme From A Peanut Butter Wolf." Side D closes the release with four tracks, ending on "Hawaii 5000," another brief cut at eighteen seconds.

The title of the record, My Vinyl Weighs A Ton, is a direct reference to the physical format it was pressed on, a choice that aligns with Stones Throw's consistent positioning within collector-oriented hip-hop culture. The catalog number STH 2017 places it within the label's documented release sequence. This is an unreviewed draft intended for fact-checking prior to publication.
