Planet Asia & Madlib
Cracks In The Vinyl

Listening notes

Cracks In The Vinyl is a 2011 hip hop release from Planet Asia and Madlib, issued through Wandering Worx Music as a digital file. The collaboration brings together two artists with deep roots in West Coast underground hip hop, with Madlib widely recognized as a prolific producer and record collector, and Planet Asia established as an emcee from Fresno, California.

The release contains six tracks. It opens with "Double Dutch (Intro)" and moves through "Carry Crates," "Masonic Vocals," "Street Clothes," and "Rap Graffiti," before closing with "Madrid." Track durations are not listed for any of the six selections. The project carries no catalog number.

The title itself gestures toward the culture of vinyl record collecting, a subject that aligns with Madlib's well-documented personal investment in physical records and crate digging. Whether that framing extends meaningfully into the content of the tracks is something a listener would have to determine for themselves. It is worth noting that despite the vinyl-referencing title, the release exists only in digital file format, at least as documented here, with no physical pressing on record.

As a digital-only release without a catalog number, Cracks In The Vinyl sits somewhat outside the primary scope of a vinyl reference resource. Its inclusion may be of interest to researchers tracking the full discographies of either artist, or to those documenting the broader landscape of digital underground hip hop releases from the early 2010s. This draft should be reviewed for any additional release formats, personnel credits, or supplementary documentation that may exist beyond what is captured here.
