Stephen Webber
Vital Vinyl Volume One: Needle Juice

Listening notes

Released in 2000 on Vital Vinyl (2), Stephen Webber's *Vital Vinyl Volume One: Needle Juice* (catalog number HL50449491) is a vinyl release filed under the DJ Battle Tool and Hip Hop genres. The record presents nine tracks across two sides, with four cuts on the A side and five on the B side.

The A side opens with "Juice Jam" and moves through "Blow-Up Beats" and "Funky Bari Break" before closing on "Savage Skratch Substance." The track titles on this side gesture toward the functional vocabulary of scratch and battle DJ culture, language that situates the release squarely within a practice-oriented corner of the hip hop ecosystem.

The B side carries five tracks: "Slappin' My Bass Around," "Hip-Hop Drum Morph," "Big Bluesy Break," "Savory Skratch & Stab," and "Tremolo Strings Loop." The titles suggest a range of source material — bass, drums, blues-inflected breaks, scratch-ready stabs, and string loops — consistent with the kind of varied toolkit a DJ Battle Tool release is typically designed to provide.

The genre classification of DJ Battle Tool places this record in a category defined by utility. These releases exist to give DJs raw material for live performance, competition, and practice rather than to function as conventional listening records. The vinyl format is a natural fit for that purpose, given that battle DJs work directly with physical media on turntables.

Track durations are not documented in the available release data, and no additional personnel, pressing, or production information has been confirmed for inclusion here. Readers with verified supplementary details are encouraged to flag them for the fact-checking stage before publication.
