Delicious Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1988, this cassette compilation serves as an early document of Delicious Vinyl, the Los Angeles-based hip hop label that issued it under the catalog number NMS '88 DV. The label chose to put its own name on the release, presenting it straightforwardly as a label showcase across two sides of tape.

Side A opens with "I Let 'Em Know" and moves through "Wild Thing," "On The Real Tip," and "Nosey Neighbors," giving the first half of the compilation four distinct tracks. Side B follows a similar structure, running from "The Fastest Rhyme - My Name Is Young" through "I Got It Goin'," "Give It Here," and closing with "Suck On This." Eight tracks in total are distributed evenly across the two sides, though no durations are documented for any of them.

The release falls squarely within the hip hop genre and dates to a year when independent labels were actively using compilations as a means of introducing their rosters to new audiences through retail and promotional channels. The cassette format was a practical choice for wide distribution in 1988, when tape remained a dominant physical medium alongside the twelve-inch single in hip hop circles.

Beyond what the release itself communicates — its label of origin, its catalog number, its year, its format, and its tracklist — the verified record does not extend further. Personnel, individual track credits, and any notes that may have accompanied the original release are not documented in the available data. A fact checker reviewing this entry may wish to consult physical copies or period label documentation to fill those gaps before the entry is considered complete.
