Songs Of Samhain [Vinyl Box Set]

Listening notes

Released in 2023 on Majik Ninja Entertainment, the Songs Of Samhain vinyl box set (catalog number MNE202) brings together three separate volumes of Twiztid's Halloween-themed output onto a three-record configuration spanning six sides and thirty-four total tracks.

The set is organized as a self-contained anthology. The first record houses Songs Of Samhain, Volume 1 across sides A and B, opening with "We Only Have So Much Time" and moving through titles such as "9lb. Hammer," "Murder Carnage," and "Haddonfield 2 Crystal Lake" before closing side B with "In My Head." The second record presents Songs Of Samhain, Volume 2: Haunted Record Player on sides C and D, a subtitle that gestures toward the format housing it. That volume runs from "I Shall Arrive!" through "Needle On The Record," "Paint The Town Red," and "Halloween Treat," concluding with "Quarantine" at position D10. The third record collects Songs Of Samhain Volume 3: Cult Of Night across sides E and F, the most expansive of the three volumes with thirteen tracks, ending on titles including "Parasite Paradise," "Unreal," "Mother Witch," and "Soggy Pumpkin."

Taken together, the track titles throughout all three volumes — "Die On Samhain," "Curse Of The Jack-O-Lantern," "Nursery Rhyme From Another Time," "Nursery Rhyme From A Different Time," "Nursery Rhyme From A Luminescent Time" — reflect the horror and seasonal thematic framework that defines the Songs Of Samhain series as a whole. Twiztid's genre alignment with hip hop and horrorcore, as catalogued here, is consistent with the subject matter the titles suggest.

For collectors, the box set represents a physical consolidation of the Songs Of Samhain series under the Majik Ninja Entertainment imprint, the independent label Twiztid has operated since departing Psychopathic Records.
