Steel Rats (Vinyl Special Edition)

Listening notes

Released in 2018 on Tate Multimedia, the Steel Rats Vinyl Special Edition presents two tracks drawn from the Steel Rats video game soundtrack across a single two-sided record. Side A carries "The Hoovering" while Side B presents "Steel Rats - The City," with the release credited jointly to The 5.6.7.8's and composer Arkadiusz Reikowski.

The pairing of those two names is itself the most immediately curious aspect of this release. The 5.6.7.8's are a Japanese garage rock act, while the genres listed for this release span classical, rock, soundtrack, stage and screen, and video game music — a range that suggests the game's score drew from meaningfully different musical directions rather than a single unified approach.

Steel Rats was a video game published by Tate Multimedia, and this vinyl release appears to have been produced in connection with it. No catalog number is associated with the release, which is a detail worth noting for collectors and researchers attempting to document or locate copies.

Beyond what the data directly confirms — the year, the label, the two track titles, the two credited artists, and the listed genres — there is little that can be responsibly said here without additional sourcing. Track durations are not available in the confirmed information, and no details about pressing, edition size, or distribution are included in what has been verified.

For a reference entry, the essential facts are present: a 2018 vinyl release on Tate Multimedia, two sides, two credited contributors whose combination reflects the eclectic genre scope of the underlying project. A researcher or collector looking to expand this entry would benefit from confirming personnel details, pressing specifications, and any regional distribution information before this draft is treated as complete.
