BAP Vinyl Box Volume 1 (1981-1988)

Listening notes

BAP Vinyl Box Volume 1 (1981–1988) was released in 2021 on Vertigo Berlin under catalog number 388 299 3. The set collects material from a seven-year span of the Cologne rock band's output and is catalogued under the genres blues rock, classic rock, hard rock, pop rock, and rock.

The box set spans five vinyl records and organizes its content across ten sides, labeled A through T. The tracklist runs to more than seventy entries. Several of the individual discs correspond to what appear to be distinct album titles: "Für Usszeschnigge!," "Vun Drinne Noh Drusse," "Zwesche Salzjebäck Un Bier," "Ahl Männer, Aalglatt," and "Da Capo" each head a grouping of tracks without assigned side-letter positions, suggesting they function as disc or album dividers within the sequence.

Throughout, the tracklist alternates between studio recordings and live performances. Live entries are drawn from documented locations and years, including Dortmund 1982, St. Wendel 1989, Köln 1988, München 1988, and 1984 and 1986 dates without specified venues. Side L includes a track identified as "Nackt Im Wind (Urversion 1985)," distinguished from other versions by its parenthetical label. Side T closes the set with four live recordings, among them covers of "Born To Be Wild" and "Rockin' All Over The World," the latter credited to a Köln 1991 performance, which falls outside the 1981–1988 date range stated in the box title.

The bulk of the tracklist is in Kölsch, the regional dialect of Cologne, with a small number of titles in standard German. This is an unreviewed draft and should be verified against original source materials before publication.
