Barge With An Antenna On It, Danyl Jesu
12" vinyl split

Listening notes

Released in 2015 on Sonic Masala Records, catalog number SM005, this 12-inch vinyl split pairs two acts under the rock umbrella: Barge With An Antenna On It and Danyl Jesu. The format is straightforward — ten tracks spread across a standard split release, with both artists contributing material to the record.

The tracklist spans a considerable range of running times. The briefest entry is Danyl Jesu's "Witch Snatch" at one minute and twenty seconds, while the longest, "Exhaustion," runs five minutes and forty-six seconds. That spread of nearly four and a half minutes between the shortest and longest tracks suggests the two artists are not working from identical formal premises, though the genre designation of rock applies to the release as a whole.

Barge With An Antenna On It contributes the opening five tracks: "Spaz" (1:49), "New Land Old Sun" (3:23), "BWAAOI" (3:11), "Cub" (4:06), and "Nobby Doldrums" (4:18). Danyl Jesu's side runs from "Witch Snatch" (1:20) through "Abandon" (4:21), "Gathering" (5:01), "Triumph" (4:56), and closes with "Exhaustion" (5:46). The total runtime is substantial for a split release, with Danyl Jesu's five tracks alone accounting for over twenty-one minutes.

Sonic Masala Records assigned this the fifth release in their catalog sequence, placing it early in the label's documented output. The 12-inch format accommodates the combined runtime across both sides.
