Beat (2), The
The Vinyl Collection

Listening notes

Released in 2012 on Edsel Records, The Vinyl Collection (catalog number EDSB 4009) is a box set compiling material from The Beat across three studio albums and a bonus LP. The set spans the band's three studio albums — I Just Can't Stop It, Wha'ppen, and Special Beat Service — presented on six sides of vinyl, with each album title appearing without individual track positioning in the tracklist, suggesting they are collected as discrete units within the box.

The studio albums account for sides A through F. I Just Can't Stop It contributes tracks including "Mirror In The Bathroom," "Hands Off...She's Mine," "Twist & Crawl," and "Stand Down Margaret," among others across its two sides. Wha'ppen follows on sides C and D, with titles such as "Doors Of Your Heart," "All Out To Get You," "Monkey Murders," and "Dream Home In N.Z." Special Beat Service occupies sides E and F, featuring "I Confess," "Save It For Later," "Spar Wid Me," and "Ackee 1-2-3," among others.

The set is distinguished by the inclusion of a bonus LP billed as The Dub Album, occupying sides G and H. Its seven tracks are largely dub reworkings of material from the studio albums, including "Too Nice To Talk To (Dubweiser)," "Doors Of Your Heart (Dub)," "Drowning (Dub)," "Stand Down Margaret (Dub)," and an extended version of "Save It For Later." Two additional titles — "Psychedelic Rockers (Dubweiser)" and "What's Your Best Thing (Dub Style)" — also appear.

The set is catalogued under the genres pop, reggae, rock, and ska. No further production, personnel, or packaging details are available for verification at this time.
