Blood Incantation
Starspawn

Listening notes

Blood Incantation released Starspawn in 2016 through Dark Descent Records, catalogued as DDR157LP. The Denver-based death metal band's debut full-length arrived on the Dark Descent label, which has operated as a consistent home for extreme metal releases.

The vinyl edition presents five tracks across two sides. The A side opens with "Vitrification Of Blood (Part 1)" followed by "Chaoplasm," while the B side carries the bulk of the record's runtime with three tracks: "Hidden Species (Vitrification Of Blood Part 2)," "Meticulous Soul Devourment," and the title track "Starspawn." The sequencing of "Vitrification Of Blood" across both sides — the first part opening the record and the second part beginning the flip — represents a deliberate structural decision, one that gives the album a degree of architectural continuity across its two halves.

The tracklist itself communicates something of the band's aesthetic orientation. Titles like "Chaoplasm," "Hidden Species," and "Starspawn" suggest a conceptual vocabulary drawn from science fiction and cosmic horror, territory that has long intersected with death metal as a genre. Whether that framework is developed lyrically or instrumentally is a matter for the listener to assess directly.

Dark Descent Records has served as the releasing label, and the catalog number DDR157LP places this release within the label's broader output. Track durations are not confirmed in available documentation for this edition.
