Brian Jonestown Massacre, The
Thank God For Mental Illness

Listening notes

This 2015 vinyl release brings The Brian Jonestown Massacre's *Thank God For Mental Illness* to the format under the A Records label, catalogued as auk007LP. The album spans twelve tracks across two sides, with the A side opening on "Spanish Bee" at three minutes and forty-eight seconds before moving through a run of notably compact pieces. "It Girl," "13," "Ballad Of Jim Jones," and "Those Memories" each clock in at under two and a half minutes, with the side closing on "Stars" at three minutes and fifteen seconds.

The B side follows a similar pattern. "Free And Easy, Take 2" leads at two minutes and twenty-eight seconds, followed by the longest track on the record, "Down," at three minutes and fifty-two seconds. The side then moves into some of the album's shortest material: "Cause I Love Her" at one minute and fourteen seconds and "Too Crazy To Care" at one minute and twenty-one seconds. "Talk - Action = Shit" and "True Love" close the record, the latter running three minutes and thirty-one seconds.

Across its genres — listed here as Alternative Rock, Garage Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Rock, Rock & Roll, and Stoner Rock — the album carries a tracklist that favors brevity, with the majority of its twelve tracks falling under three minutes. The full runtime, calculated from the listed durations, comes to approximately thirty-two minutes and fifteen seconds across both sides, a lean spread for a standard LP.

The release appears under A Records with the catalog number auk007LP. No additional personnel, pressing variants, or matrix information has been verified for this entry and should be confirmed before publication.
