Chaos UK
Kings For A Day - The Vinyl Japan Years

Listening notes

Released in 2008 on the Discipline label (catalog number DISCCD14), Kings For A Day - The Vinyl Japan Years is a two-disc CD compilation drawing together material from Bristol hardcore and punk band Chaos UK's time recording for Vinyl Japan. The set is catalogued under the genres of hardcore, punk, and rock.

The first disc opens with an untitled section beginning with "Heard It, Seen It, Done It" before moving into fourteen numbered tracks that include covers — among them versions of songs sharing titles with well-known tracks such as "Public Image," "Butcher Baby," "Pump It Up," and "Belsen Was A Gas" — alongside original material. Three additional tracks are designated as bonus tracks: "For Adolfs Only," "Bone Idol," and "Brain Bomb."

The second disc is presented under the heading "The Singles" and runs to eighteen tracks, among them "King For A Day," which shares its name with the compilation's title, as well as titles including "Ramraid," "C. Rap," "2000 Lies," "This Song Has Been Genetically Modified," and "Travis-ty." The full disc brings the compilation's combined track count to thirty-five listed titles across both discs, not including the section header entries.

The subtitle's reference to the Vinyl Japan years positions the release explicitly as a retrospective focused on a specific label period in the band's history, though the data available here does not specify the dates those recordings span. Researchers and collectors seeking further detail on personnel, original release dates, or recording sessions should consult primary documentation, as those particulars fall outside the verified information available for this entry.
