Chelsea Wolfe
Abyss

Listening notes

Chelsea Wolfe's Abyss, released in 2015 on Sargent House (catalog number SH141), is a double LP spread across four sides. The record carries the genres of Indie Rock and Rock, and its eleven tracks are distributed evenly enough across the format to make full use of the double-album structure.

Side A opens with "Carrion Flowers," followed by "Iron Moon" and "Dragged Out." Side B continues with "Maw," "Grey Days," and "After The Fall." The album's second half begins on Side C with "Crazy Love," "Simple Death," and "Survive," before Side D closes the record with "Color Of Blood" and the title track, "The Abyss."

The double LP format means collectors are handling four sides of playback, and the sequencing places the title track last, functioning as a deliberate endpoint to the record as a whole. The eleven-track count across four sides results in an uneven distribution, with Sides A, B, and C each carrying three tracks while Side D holds two, giving the final side a notably different weight in terms of track density.

Sargent House is an independent label based in Los Angeles, and Abyss appears in their catalog under the designation SH141. For collectors and record reference purposes, that catalog number is the primary identifying marker for this pressing.
