Def Leppard
Vinyl Collection Volume One

Listening notes

Released by UMC in 2018 under catalog number 5777356, Def Leppard's Vinyl Collection Volume One is a box set spanning seven vinyl components and covering a substantial portion of the band's catalog through the late 1980s. The set brings together four studio albums — On Through The Night, High 'N' Dry, Pyromania, and Hysteria — alongside a live recording titled Live At The L.A. Forum 1983, a rarities collection labeled Rarities - Volume One, and a reproduction of The Def Leppard E.P.

The studio albums are presented in full. On Through The Night runs across sides A and B, closing with the seven-minute-forty-five-second "Overture." High 'N' Dry occupies sides C and D, with ten tracks including "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" and "Lady Strange." Pyromania fills sides E and F, its ten tracks including "Photograph," "Rock Of Ages," and the nearly six-minute closing track "Billy's Got A Gun." Hysteria, the largest of the four studio records in terms of running time, is spread across four sides — G through J — accommodating all twelve album tracks, among them "Pour Some Sugar On Me," "Love Bites," and the title track.

The live component, recorded at the L.A. Forum in 1983, spans sides K through N and draws its setlist from the band's first three albums. It includes a version of "Travelin' Band" not found elsewhere in the set.

Rarities - Volume One occupies sides O and P and gathers single versions, remixes, and other material including "Good Morning Freedom," a re-recording of "Ride Into The Sun," and "Ring Of Fire." The Def Leppard E.P., filling sides Q and R, presents early recordings including the original "Ride Into The Sun" and "Getcha Rocks Off."

The set is cataloged under genres spanning hard rock, heavy metal, arena rock, pop rock, and rock.
