Listening notes
Released in 2021 on Mercury Records (catalog number 0818002), Def Leppard's Vinyl Collection Volume Three is a six-LP box set spanning hard rock and rock genres. The set collects material across several distinct groupings, with disc labels indicating the inclusion of the studio albums X and Songs From The Sparkle Lounge, the covers albums Yeah! and Yeah! II, a B-Sides collection, and a Yeah! Live component.
The X portion of the set occupies sides A and B, drawing its thirteen tracks — among them "Now," "Unbelievable," "Everyday," and "Scar" — from what the tracklist positions as a complete album sequence. Songs From The Sparkle Lounge follows on sides G and H, running eleven tracks including "Go," "Nine Lives," and "Come Undone."
The two Yeah! covers albums together account for a substantial portion of the set. The original Yeah! material, spread across sides C and D, includes the band's versions of tracks associated with T. Rex, David Bowie, Sweet, ELO, and Blondie, among others. Yeah! II, occupying sides M through P, extends that approach with titles referencing the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Iggy Pop, and others, and includes tracks labeled as exclusive or demo variants alongside the standard album content.
The B-Sides section, running sides I through L, collects radio edits, demo recordings, and alternate versions tied primarily to the X and Songs From The Sparkle Lounge periods, including a "Joe Only Vocal Version" of "Nine Lives" and a "Piano Version" of "Love." The Yeah! Live portion closes the set across sides Q and R.
