Listening notes
Released in 2019 on UMC (catalog number 6731379), Def Leppard's Vinyl Collection Volume Two is a six-LP box set spanning the hard rock and rock genres. The set collects material across several distinct components, identified in the tracklist as Adrenalize, Retro Active, Slang, Euphoria, Rarities 2, and Rarities 3, and also includes a book.
The Adrenalize portion occupies sides A and B, running ten tracks across the two sides. Retro Active follows on sides C through F, a spread that accommodates its larger track count, including multiple versions of individual songs: "Miss You In A Heartbeat" appears in electric and piano versions alongside the album version, and "Two Steps Behind" appears in both acoustic and electric versions. Slang fills sides G and H with eleven tracks. Euphoria spans sides I through L with twelve tracks.
The Rarities 2 and Rarities 3 components, spread across sides M through T, account for a substantial portion of the box set's content. These sides include demos attributed to specific individuals — among them "She's Too Tough (Joe's Demo)," "Miss You In A Heartbeat (Phil's Demo)," and "Work It Out (Viv's Demo)" — as well as bonus tracks and live recordings drawn from named dates and venues. The live material includes performances recorded in Bonn, Germany on 29 May 1992; at the Hard Rock Café in Singapore on 26 October 1995; at the Molson Centre in Montreal on 11 October 1996; and at the Magness Arena in Denver on 9 December 1999, and the Kokusai Forum Hall in Tokyo on 2 October 1999.
In total the set presents a substantial volume of material across its sides, with the rarities components alone covering eight sides of vinyl. A book is listed among the box set's contents, though no further detail about it is provided in the available documentation. Fact checker: please verify all venue names, demo attributions, and bonus track origins against primary sources before publication.
