Unchain The Wolves

Listening notes

Deströyer 666's Unchain The Wolves arrived on vinyl through Hells Headbangers in 2014, issued under catalog number HELLS LP 133. The release places the Australian act's work within a triangle of black metal, death metal, and rock — a combination that has long defined the band's approach without settling neatly into any single category.

The record is structured across two sides, each carrying four tracks. The A side opens with "Genesis To Genocide," a piece that runs to ten minutes and eleven seconds, making it one of the two longest entries on the record. It is followed by "Australian And Anti-Christ" at four minutes and six seconds, then "Satan's Hammer" at four minutes and thirteen seconds, before the side closes with "Tyranny," which extends to six minutes and fifty-nine seconds. The B side mirrors this pattern in a loose sense, opening with "Six Curses From A Spiritual Wasteland" at five minutes and seventeen seconds before arriving at the title track, "Unchain The Wolves," which runs ten minutes and seventeen seconds — the longest piece on the record. The side then closes with "Damnation's Pride" at three minutes and forty-eight seconds and "Onward To Arktoga" at five minutes and five seconds.

Taken together, the eight tracks represent a runtime distributed unevenly but deliberately, with the two longest pieces anchoring opposite sides of the record. Hells Headbangers, the label responsible for this pressing, operates primarily within extreme metal and has served as a consistent home for releases in that space. Whether this particular edition represents the first vinyl appearance of this material or a reissue is not confirmed within the available data and should be verified before publication.
