Hello Internet: The Vinyl Episode (Mt Doom Edition)

Listening notes

Released in 2020 on Hotstopper Records, Hello Internet: The Vinyl Episode (Mt Doom Edition) is a spoken word record credited to Dr Brady Haran and CGP Grey, catalogued under the number 148523. The release sits within the non-music and spoken word genres, placing it among a relatively uncommon category of vinyl releases that prioritise voice and conversation over musical content.

The record is pressed as a standard single LP, with two untitled sides. The A side runs for 22 minutes and 18 seconds, while the B side extends slightly longer at 23 minutes and 24 seconds, giving the record a combined runtime of just over 45 minutes. The decision to leave both sides untitled is a notable structural choice, one that resists the conventions typically associated with spoken word releases, where track titles often serve as navigational or contextual markers for the listener.

Hello Internet was a long-running podcast hosted by Haran and Grey, a fact that provides context for understanding this release as a physical edition of content originating in an audio format. The Mt Doom Edition designation appears as part of the official title, though what specifically differentiates this edition from any other configuration is not established by the available documentation alone.

Vinyl releases rooted in podcast content remain an unusual corner of the format's market, and this record reflects a particular moment in which the cultural enthusiasm for vinyl as a physical medium intersected with the growing institutional presence of long-form independent audio. Beyond what the catalogue data confirms, the specifics of this release — its production context, its intended audience, and its place within the broader Hello Internet project — would benefit from additional verification before publication.
