Fantastic Damage

Listening notes

Fantastic Damage, released by EL-P on Definitive Jux in 2002, arrives on vinyl under catalog number DJX27. The record is categorized across three genres — abstract, experimental, and hip hop — a combination that the format itself reflects in practical terms. Spread across six sides, the album contains sixteen tracks distributed across three double-sided records, a configuration that gives the release considerable physical presence on the shelf and on the turntable.

The tracklist opens on the A side with the title track, followed by "Squeegee Man Shooting" and "Deep Space 9mm." The B side carries "Tuned Mass Damper" and "Dead Disnee." Moving to the second record, the C side opens with "Delorean" and "Truancy," while the D side holds three tracks: "The Nang, The Front, The Bush And The Shit," "Accidents Don't Happen," and "Stepfather Factory." The third record places "T.O.J.," "Dr. Hellno And The Praying Mantus," and "Lazerfaces' Warning" on the E side, closing the sequence on the F side with "Innocent Leader," "Constellation Funk," and "Blood."

The track titles themselves reflect the genre classifications on paper. Titles like "Tuned Mass Damper," "Delorean," and "Stepfather Factory" sit alongside "Constellation Funk" and "Lazerfaces' Warning" without obvious genre signposting, which is consistent with the abstract and experimental tags the release carries. Definitive Jux, the label behind this release, was an independent operation that served as the home for this record.

Duration information for individual tracks is not available in the verified data for this entry and should be confirmed before publication. Any additional personnel, pressing details, or production credits would require independent verification before being added to this draft.
