Ex, The
Singles Period (The Vinyl Years 1980-1990)

Listening notes

Singles Period (The Vinyl Years 1980-1990) is a compilation released by The Ex on Touch and Go Records in 2005, carrying the catalog number TG258CD. As the subtitle indicates, the collection draws from the Dutch group's single releases across a ten-year span beginning in 1980, and the format is CD.

The tracklist runs to twenty-three songs. Title choices across the sequence suggest a band willing to address political and social subjects directly: "Weapons For El Salvador," "Stupid Americans," "Constitutional State," and "New Wars II" sit alongside titles such as "Apathy Disease" and "Enough Is Enough." The range of titles also hints at a certain dry humor, with entries including "Gonna Rob The Spermbank," "Crap-Rap," and "Rock'n'Roll-Stoel," the last of which is Dutch, pointing to the band's origins. "Rara Rap" and "Stonestampers Song," which appears alongside a German-language counterpart, "Lied Der Steinklopfer," further indicate that the material was not confined to a single language or narrow register.

The genres listed — Alternative Rock, Punk, and Rock — reflect the broad categorical terms commonly applied to The Ex's output from this period, though the tracklist itself, covering a full decade of singles work, suggests the band moved across considerable territory within and around those labels.

The compilation is classified under the genres Alternative Rock, Punk, and Rock. Duration information for individual tracks is not available in the current data.

This is an unreviewed draft. Track durations, personnel, original release dates for individual singles, and all other details not listed above require independent verification before publication.
