Listening notes
Released in 2017 on Apple Records, George Harrison: The Vinyl Collection (catalog number 0602557090277) is a fourteen-disc box set gathering Harrison's solo studio albums alongside select additional releases in a single package. The albums represented span a considerable range of the catalog: Wonderwall Music, Electronic Sound, All Things Must Pass, Living In The Material World, Dark Horse, Extra Texture (Read All About It), Thirty Three And 1/3, George Harrison, Somewhere In England, Gone Troppo, Cloud Nine, Brainwashed, and Live In Japan all appear across the set's many sides, which run from sides A through AF before continuing through additional discs dedicated to 12-inch single releases.
Those final discs present extended and alternate versions not found on the studio albums. The 12-inch Got My Mind Set On You disc includes an extended version on one side and the single version paired with "Lay His Head" on the other. The 12-inch When We Was Fab disc carries the unextended version alongside "Zig Zag," with the reverse side offering a remix of "That's The Way It Goes" and "When We Was Fab (Reverse End)."
The genres listed for the set — experimental, pop, pop rock, psychedelic rock, and rock — reflect the breadth of material collected here, from the Indian classical and experimental textures of the earliest records through the more conventional rock and pop productions of Harrison's later career. The tracklist for Wonderwall Music and Electronic Sound alone illustrates that range, with short pieces bearing titles such as "Tabia And Pakawaj," "Guru Vandana," "Gat Kirwani," and "Singing Om" sitting alongside entries titled "Cowboy Music" and "Greasy Legs."
This is an unreviewed draft. All details should be verified against primary sources before publication.
