Guru Guru, Floh De Cologne
Krautrock Box (Vinyl Edition)

Listening notes

Released in 2024 on ZYX Music under catalog number ZYX BOX 090, the Krautrock Box (Vinyl Edition) is a three-LP box set collecting material from two West German acts associated with the krautrock genre: Guru Guru and Floh de Cologne. The set is catalogued under the genres krautrock and rock.

The first record presents Guru Guru's Ufo across two sides. Side A opens with "Stone In" at five minutes and forty-two seconds, followed by "Girl Call" at six minutes and twenty-one seconds, and "Next Time See You At The Dalai Lhama" at five minutes and fifty-eight seconds. Side B carries two longer tracks: the title piece "Ufo" running ten minutes and twenty-five seconds, and "Der LSD-Marsch" at eight minutes and twenty-nine seconds.

The second record is devoted to Floh de Cologne's Fließbandbaby Beat-Show. Spread across sides C and D, the album's eleven tracks range considerably in length, from "Wenn Springer Mal Rülpst" at one minute and twelve seconds to the opening "Fließbandbaby" at six minutes and thirty-two seconds. Titles including "Arbeit Macht Frei," "Armer Junger Krupp," and "Die Oberen Zehntausend" suggest the politically oriented character the group was known for, though editorial comment on that material is left to the fact checker's discretion.

The third record contains Guru Guru's Hinten. Side E holds two extended pieces: "Electric Junk" at ten minutes and fifty-eight seconds, and "The Meaning Of Meaning" at twelve minutes and nine seconds. Side F closes the set with "Bo Diddley" at nine minutes and fifty-six seconds and "Space Ship" at eleven minutes and five seconds, bringing the total runtime of the third record alone to well over forty minutes.

The box set format and the breadth of the tracklist place a substantial portion of each group's early catalog within a single package. Further detail regarding pressing specifications, mastering, and liner notes should be confirmed before publication.
