Hällas
Isle Of Wisdom

Listening notes

Hällas released Isle Of Wisdom on Napalm Records in 2022, catalogued as NPR1124VINYL. The Swedish band works across a range of styles that touch on hard rock, prog rock, psychedelic rock, and space rock, and this record sits within that same broadly defined territory.

The album is spread across two sides. Side A opens with "Birth/Into Darkness" before moving into "Advent Of Dawn," "Earl's Theme," and "The Inner Chamber." Side B carries "Elusion's Gate," "Gallivants (Of Space)," "Stygian Depths," and closes with "The Wind Carries The Word." The sequencing places an introductory piece at the top of the record and a more expansively titled closer at the end of the second side, though no further detail about the album's conceptual framework is confirmed here.

Track titles like "Stygian Depths," "Elusion's Gate," and "Birth/Into Darkness" gesture toward a lyrical or thematic interest in mythology, the fantastical, or the otherworldly, which aligns in a general sense with the space rock and psychedelic elements listed among the album's genres. "Earl's Theme" and "Gallivants (Of Space)" suggest a somewhat more varied approach to titling across the record. Whether these titles map onto a single coherent narrative is not something the available data can confirm.

Napalm Records, an Austrian label with a catalogue spanning heavy and alternative rock, served as the release vehicle for this pressing. Duration data for individual tracks is not available in the source material consulted for this draft.
