Listening notes

Released by Nuclear Blast in 2017 under catalog number NB 3751-0, The Vinyl Collection gathers eleven HammerFall releases into a single box set spanning multiple vinyl records and mixed-media components. The set covers a substantial portion of the Swedish heavy metal band's catalog, beginning with their debut album Glory To The Brave and running through the 2014 studio album (r)Evolution.

The studio albums represented in the set are Glory To The Brave, Legacy Of Kings, Renegade, Crimson Thunder, Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken, Threshold, No Sacrifice, No Victory, Infected, and (r)Evolution. Also included is Masterpieces, a covers and rarities collection spread across four vinyl sides, and the two-part live release Gates Of Dalhalla, which occupies a combined seven sides of vinyl and documents a live performance that drew on material from across the band's studio catalog to that point.

The tracklisting for the live portions notably includes a drum solo segment and a brief performance of Carl Orff's "O Fortuna," alongside HammerFall originals spanning their full career up to that date. The studio discs are sequenced to match the original album programs, with individual track durations ranging from brief interludes of under two minutes to extended album closers exceeding twelve minutes, as with "Knights Of The 21st Century" on Chapter V.

The format notation indicates the set combines standard vinyl records with all-media components. The genres listed are heavy metal, power metal, and rock.
