Listening notes
Released in 2014 on The End Records (catalog number TE355-1), "Lashes To Ashes, Lust To Dust: A Vinyl Retrospective '96-'03" is a multi-format box set from Finnish gothic metal and rock act HIM. The set spans five vinyl records alongside a USB memory stick, with its scope defined by the years indicated in the title.
The vinyl component is organized around four of the band's albums: "666 Ways to Love: Prologue," "Greatest Lovesongs, Vol. 666," "Razorblade Romance," "Deep Shadows And Brilliant Highlights," and "Love Metal," spread across sides A through J. The earliest material appears on sides A and B, where track durations are documented: "Stigmata Diaboli" runs 2:51, "Wicked Game" 3:53, "Dark Sekret Love" 5:17, and "The Heartless" 7:25. Duration information for the remaining vinyl sides is not available in the release data.
The USB memory stick, labeled "USB Drive L2AL2D," carries the most substantial portion of the set's content, with 79 indexed tracks. These mirror the vinyl's album sequence while adding bonus material throughout. Bonus tracks include live recordings drawn from multiple dates and locations, among them performances labeled Helldone, Rockpalast, Provinssirock, El Teatro Flores in Buenos Aires, Center Stage in Georgia, and Caribia in Turku. Additional bonus material appears under designations such as "Strongroom Sessions," "Hollola Tapes," "Vinnfox Relics," "ACSTC" recordings, "PRCX" versions, and "TRNSFRMTN" versions, as well as a credited John Fryer mix and a Kevin Shirley mix. The USB versions of "Stigmata Diaboli," "Wicked Game," "Dark Sekret Love," and "The Heartless" carry slightly longer running times than their vinyl counterparts.
This is an unreviewed draft requiring fact-checker verification before publication.
