Listening notes
Released in 2017 on A&M Records, The A&M Vinyl Box-Set 1970–1975 (catalog number 5375705) collects Humble Pie's studio and live output from their tenure with the label across a substantial multi-disc vinyl package. The set spans sides A through R, presenting the band's albums in sequence: the self-titled Humble Pie, Rock On, Performance Rockin' The Fillmore, Smokin', Eat It, Thunderbox, and Street Rats (represented here in its US version).
The sheer physical scope of the collection is notable. Sides E through H are devoted entirely to the live Performance Rockin' The Fillmore, with individual tracks occupying full sides — "I Walk On Gilded Splinters" runs 23 minutes and 30 seconds across side F, while "Rollin' Stone" fills side G at 16 minutes and 10 seconds. The Eat It portion of the set, spread across sides K through N, similarly reflects that album's original double-disc configuration, closing with a 13-minute and 30-second version of "(I'm A) Road Runner."
Across the blues rock, hard rock, and rock genres the band worked within during this period, the tracklist includes studio cuts alongside the live performances, covering titles such as "30 Days In The Hole," "Hot 'N' Nasty," "Stone Cold Fever," and "I Don't Need No Doctor," among many others.
The box set presents a document of Humble Pie's complete A&M years in vinyl form, running from the self-titled 1970 release through to Street Rats in 1975.
