J. Geils Band, The
Nightmares ...And Other Stories From The Vinyl Jungle

Listening notes

The J. Geils Band's "Nightmares ...And Other Stories From The Vinyl Jungle" was released on Atlantic Records in 1991, carrying the catalog number 18107-2. The release is a CD edition and spans nine tracks across genres that include blues rock, pop rock, and rock.

The tracklist opens with "Detroit Breakdown," running six minutes, and closes with "Gettin' Out" at five minutes and forty-six seconds. The album's title track, "Nightmares," is notably brief at one minute and fourteen seconds, standing apart from the longer cuts that make up much of the running time. Other tracks exceeding five minutes include "Must Of Got Lost," "Stoop Down #39," and "Gettin' Out," suggesting the album gives meaningful space to extended compositions alongside more compact pieces like "Funky Judge" at three minutes and fifteen seconds and "Givin' It All Up" at three minutes and forty-three seconds.

The full tracklist, in order, is: "Detroit Breakdown," "Givin' It All Up," "Must Of Got Lost," "Look Me In The Eye," "Nightmares," "Stoop Down #39," "I'll Be Coming Home," "Funky Judge," and "Gettin' Out." The total sequence moves between shorter and longer pieces without a strict pattern, with the one-minute title track appearing at the midpoint of the nine-song sequence.
