J. Geils Band, The
Nightmares ...And Other Tales From The Vinyl Jungle

Listening notes

The J. Geils Band's "Nightmares ...And Other Tales From The Vinyl Jungle" received a Blu-ray release in 2023 through Atlantic Records, cataloged as BA2 18107. The release spans nine tracks and falls under the genres of blues rock, pop rock, and rock.

The program opens with "Detroit Breakdown," running six minutes, and moves through a varied set that includes "Givin' It All Up" at three minutes and forty-three seconds and "Must Of Got Lost" at five minutes and four seconds. "Look Me In The Eye" follows at three minutes and fifty-seven seconds before the title track, "Nightmares," offers a comparatively brief one minute and fourteen seconds. The second half of the program includes "Stoop Down #39," the longest track on the release at six minutes and fifty seconds, followed by "I'll Be Coming Home" at four minutes and thirty seconds, "Funky Judge" at three minutes and fifteen seconds, and "Gettin' Out" closing things out at five minutes and forty-six seconds.

The title's parenthetical reference to the vinyl jungle is notable given the format: this is a Blu-ray release rather than a vinyl record. The catalog number prefix BA2 is consistent with Blu-ray audio formatting conventions. The nine-track sequencing totals approximately forty minutes and nineteen seconds of programming across the set.
