Jesse's Aftertaste, Proletariat Dance Party
Dave / 7 Stiff Inches Of Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1993 on the Wheelchair Full Of Old Men label, this split seven-inch brings together Jesse's Aftertaste and Proletariat Dance Party under a release that wears its provocations openly. The record carries no catalog number, a detail that places it squarely within the self-released or micro-label culture that sustained a great deal of independent music during that period.

The release is structured as two distinct sides. Side A belongs to Jesse's Aftertaste, opening with "I Wuz A Teenage Sex Mutant" and followed by "Tell Yer Dad 2 Get His Own Hoar!" The titles alone signal the band's comfort with a certain strain of irreverence that cut across glam, punk, and indie rock during the early 1990s. Side B is given over to Proletariat Dance Party, whose two contributions are "Proletariat Dance Party" — the band performing a self-titled track — and "Back Of Yer Hed." The overall release carries the genres of glam, indie rock, punk, and rock, a combination that reflects how fluidly those categories overlapped in underground circles of the era.

The record's full title, Dave / 7 Stiff Inches Of Vinyl, appears to function as a kind of dual branding: "Dave" and "7 Stiff Inches Of Vinyl" are both listed as titles within the release structure, though their precise relationship to the physical object — whether as side names, subtitle, or something else — is not entirely clear from the available documentation.

What can be said plainly is that the Wheelchair Full Of Old Men label produced a release in 1993 that brought two acts together on a format well suited to the independent underground of the time. For collectors and researchers interested in that specific moment in small-label vinyl, this record represents a tangible artifact worth noting.
