Listening notes
Released in 2013 on Demon Records, The Jesus and Mary Chain's The Vinyl Collection (catalog number JAMCLPBOX01) is a vinyl box set drawing together a substantial portion of the band's studio and archival output across multiple records. The set is catalogued under the genres of acoustic, alternative rock, noise, and rock.
The box set assembles six studio albums in full: Psychocandy, Darklands, Automatic, Honey's Dead, Stoned & Dethroned, and Munki, spread across sides A through N. Beyond the studio records, the collection extends into supplementary material across additional discs. The BBC Sessions occupies sides O through R, presenting performances recorded for broadcast, with track timings listed in full. Several titles from the studio albums reappear here in BBC versions, including "Just Like Honey," "Never Understand," "You Trip Me Up," "Darklands," "Far Gone And Out," and others, alongside titles not found on the studio discs in this configuration, such as "Some Candy Talking," "Sidewalking," and "Silverblade."
Two live documents are also included. Live At Sheffield Arena appears on sides S and T, featuring eight tracks without listed durations. Live At The Trinity Centre, Bristol occupies sides U and V, with full track timings provided, running from "Reverence" through "I Hate Rock 'N' Roll."
The final component is listed as the 30th Anniversary B-Sides & Rarities Collection, spread across sides X and Y. This fourteen-track selection includes early demo recordings — among them "Just Like Honey (Demo '84)" and "Up Too High (Demo '83)" — alongside non-album and alternate titles such as "Upside Down," "Kill Surf City," "Sidewalking," and "Taste Of Cindy (Acoustic Version)."
In total, the set spans sides A through Y across its multiple records, representing a broad cross-section of the band's catalog up to and including Munki.
