Listening notes

Released in 2019 on Napalm Records (catalog number NPR 796 VINYL), the self-titled debut from John Garcia And The Band Of Gold is a full-length vinyl record spanning eleven tracks across two sides. Filed under rock and stoner rock, the record arrives on a standard single LP configuration.

Side A opens with "Space Vato," the shortest track on the record at two minutes and forty-five seconds, before moving through "Jim's Whiskers" and "Chicken Delight." The sequence continues with "Kentucky II," "My Everything," and "Lillianna," which closes the side at three minutes and seventeen seconds. Taken together, Side A presents six tracks with individual runtimes clustered in the three-to-four-minute range.

Side B carries five tracks and, by virtue of its sequencing, holds the record's longer material. "Popcorn (Hit Me When You Can)" and "Appache Junction" open the side at roughly three minutes each before "Don't Even Think About It" extends to four minutes and fifteen seconds. "Cheyletiella" is the album's longest track at five minutes and forty-six seconds, and "Softer Side" closes the record at four minutes and twenty-four seconds.

The eleven-song, single-LP format is a straightforward presentation for a stoner rock release of this period. Napalm Records, an Austrian label with an active roster across heavy music genres, handled the release under catalog number NPR 796 VINYL. The year of release, 2019, places the record within a period of consistent output from Garcia, whose career has remained centered in the desert rock and stoner rock spaces.
