Johnny Hallyday
Picture Vinyle Collection 1966 : 1967

Listening notes

Released in 2017 on Mercury (catalog number 537831-7), Picture Vinyle Collection 1966 : 1967 is a vinyl compilation drawing from two consecutive years of Johnny Hallyday's recorded output. The release is categorized under rock and spreads its twenty-four tracks across four sides, with the first two sides devoted to material from 1966 and the remaining two sides covering 1967.

The 1966 portion opens with "Les Coups" and works through titles including "Hey Joe" and "Noir C'Est Noir," closing out the second side with "Aussi Dur Que Du Bois." Individual track durations across these twelve selections range from two minutes and nineteen seconds to three minutes and thirteen seconds. The 1967 section, beginning on side C, presents twelve further titles. These include "San Francisco," "Psychedelic," and "Mon Fils," the latter being the longest track on the release at three minutes and fifty-six seconds. Side D closes the compilation with "Mal."

As the title indicates, this is a picture vinyl release, a format in which the playing surface carries printed artwork rather than the standard black finish. The compilation is sequenced strictly by year, giving the four-side layout a straightforward chronological logic. Total playing time across all four sides is substantial, with most individual tracks falling in the two-and-a-half to three-minute range typical of the period represented.
