Johnny Hallyday
Picture Vinyle Collection 1986 : 1987

Listening notes

Released by Mercury in 2017 under catalog number 5380440, Picture Vinyle Collection 1986 : 1987 is a vinyl compilation drawing from two distinct years of Johnny Hallyday's catalog. The release is organized across what the tracklist designates as two separate sections, each corresponding to one of those years, and spans genres listed as chanson, pop, and rock.

The 1986 portion occupies the first record, with Side A opening on "Le Chanteur Abandonné" at 4:52 and continuing through "Pendue A Mon Cou," "Rock'n'roll Attitude," "Quelque Chose De Tennessee," and "Equipe De Nuit." Side B carries "Dans Mes Nuits… On Oublie," "J'oublierai Ton Nom En Duo," "Je Te Promets," "L'envie," and closes with "Que Je T'aime (Version Bercy 87)," the parenthetical in that last title suggesting a live or alternative version tied to a 1987 Bercy date.

The 1987 section follows on the second record. Side A includes "Mirador," "Si J'étais Moi," "Les Vautours (Version Remix)," and "Himalaya (Version Single Remix)," the latter two identified explicitly as remixed versions. Side B opens with "Cadillac (Nouvelle Version Single)" before moving to "Viet-Nam Viet (Extrait Du Dernier Rebelle)," described as an extract. The record closes with three tracks credited as live recordings from Bercy 1990: "Je Ne Suis Pas Un Héros," "Mystery Train," and "Heartbreak Hotel," running 4:14, 3:08, and 2:26 respectively.

The presence of remixed versions, a single edit, a live extract, and three Bercy 1990 live performances alongside studio tracks from 1986 and 1987 gives the compilation a varied source composition, though the editorial reasoning behind the specific track selection is not documented in the available data.
