Vinyl Confessions

Listening notes

Kansas released Vinyl Confessions in 1982 on Kirshner Records — however, the specific release documented here is a 1996 reissue on Epic Associated, carrying catalog number ZK 66418, issued in CD format. The album sits at an interesting intersection of the genres the band had built their reputation across: AOR, arena rock, prog rock, and rock more broadly, a combination that reflects the stylistic range Kansas had cultivated over the course of their career.

The ten-track program runs at a varied pace. The opening cut "Play The Game Tonight" clocks in at a compact 3:26, while the album's longest track, the closing "Crossfire," extends to 6:35 — a runtime more in keeping with the progressive rock end of the band's catalog. The tracklist also includes "Right Away," "Fair Exchange," "Chasing Shadows," "Diamonds And Pearls," "Face It," "Windows," "Borderline," and "Play On," with individual track lengths ranging from 3:20 to just over five minutes.

The 1996 Epic Associated pressing represents one configuration in which collectors may encounter this album in the secondary market. As a CD reissue rather than the original vinyl release, it falls somewhat outside the primary focus of a vinyl reference resource, though its existence is relevant context for collectors tracing the release history of this title. Those researching the original LP pressing will want to consult separate catalog entries, as this entry documents only the 1996 CD configuration under catalog number ZK 66418.

Fact-checker notes: The original album's release year (1982) and label (Kirshner) have been stated here based on general knowledge and should be independently verified against confirmed sources before publication. If those details cannot be verified, this draft should be revised to omit them entirely.
