Vinyl Confessions

Listening notes

Kansas released *Vinyl Confessions* in 1982 on the Kirshner label, catalog number KIR 85714. The album appeared on vinyl and has been categorized under pop rock, prog rock, and rock genres.

The record is a standard ten-track, two-sided LP. Side A opens with "Play The Game Tonight" at 3:24 and continues with "Right Away" (4:03), "Fair Exchange" (4:56), "Chasing Shadows" (3:17), and "Diamonds And Pearls" (4:47). Side B carries "Face It" (4:15), "Windows" (3:29), "Borderline" (3:57), "Play On" (3:30), and closes with "Crossfire," the album's longest track at 6:33.

Looking at the runtime distribution, the A side runs slightly longer overall, with "Fair Exchange" and "Diamonds And Pearls" each approaching the five-minute mark. The B side's closing track, "Crossfire," stands apart from the rest of the sequencing at over six and a half minutes, making it a notable structural outlier on an album that otherwise stays within a comparatively compact three-to-five minute range per track.

The three genre classifications assigned to this release — pop rock, prog rock, and rock — suggest a record that sits across more than one stylistic category, though the precise character of that balance is something a prospective collector would need to assess through their own listening.

*Vinyl Confessions* was issued during a period when Kirshner was an active presence in rock releases.
