Listening notes

Kansas released *Vinyl Confessions* in 1982 on the Kirshner label under catalog number KIR 85714. The album is catalogued under the genres of Pop Rock, Prog Rock, and Rock.

The record contains ten tracks spread across two sides. Side A opens with "Play The Game Tonight" at 3:24, followed by "Right Away" at 4:03, "Fair Exchange" at 4:56, "Chasing Shadows" at 3:17, and "Diamonds And Pearls" at 4:47. Side B begins with "Face It" at 4:15, then "Windows" at 3:29, "Borderline" at 3:57, "Play On" at 3:39, and closes with "Crossfire" at 6:35.

Looking at track durations, the album's two sides offer a varied pacing. Side A runs approximately 20 minutes and 27 seconds in total. The longest track on that side, "Fair Exchange," sits near the five-minute mark. Side B is anchored by its closing track, "Crossfire," which at 6:35 is the longest piece on the record and stands apart from the shorter running times that characterize much of the second side. The remaining Side B tracks cluster between roughly three and a half and four and a half minutes.

The genre tags assigned to the album — Pop Rock, Prog Rock, and Rock — reflect a broad categorization. That *Vinyl Confessions* carries both a Pop Rock and a Prog Rock designation places it in an area where those descriptors overlap, though the nature of that overlap is not something the available data can describe in further detail.
