Killing Joke
Bootleg Vinyl Archive Vol.2

Listening notes

Killing Joke's Bootleg Vinyl Archive Vol.2 was released by Candlelight Records in 2007 under catalog number CANDLE181CD. Despite the "vinyl" in its title, the release is a CD set catalogued under the post-punk and rock genres.

The collection is organized across three discs and draws on material from distinct sources. The first disc opens with a section titled "The Bums Rush (Demos)," presenting nine tracks including "Follow The Leaders," two versions of "Complications," two versions of "Change," and two versions of "The Wait." A second section on that disc, labeled "The Act Is Done," continues with five further tracks including "Night Time," "Sun Goes Down," "Tabazan," and "Darkness Before Dawn."

The second disc begins with six tracks — among them "Requiem," "Bloodsport," "Love Like Blood," and "Eighties" — before transitioning into a section identified as "Live At Joker Place." That live portion runs to twelve tracks, largely revisiting titles already present elsewhere on the release, and carries a brief introductory segment of twenty-two seconds before the performances begin.

The third disc is devoted entirely to a single event identified as "Astoria 20/09/94," a fourteen-track set running well over an hour in total. The programme includes "Wardance," "The Fall Of Because," "Communion," "Kings And Queens," "Millennium," "Mathematics Of Chaos," and "Labyrinth," alongside further appearances of recurring titles such as "Pssyche," "Eighties," and "The Wait."

Across all three discs, a number of song titles appear in multiple sections, sometimes with notably different listed durations, which may reflect differences in source material between the demo, live, and archival recordings represented here.
