Listening notes
Released in 2016 on Nuclear Blast (catalog number NB 3446-5), 25 Years Of Musical Deviance is a box set from Swedish metal band Meshuggah that compiles material drawn from across their studio discography. The set is catalogued under the genres of Experimental, Math Rock, Rock, and Thrash.
The physical configuration is substantial: ten vinyl records accompanied by a Blu-ray disc. The vinyl content is organized by album, with dedicated sides covering Meshuggah, Contradictions Collapse, None, Destroy Erase Improve, Chaosphere, Nothing, I, Catch Thirtythree, obZen, and Koloss. Tracks span sides A through AG, reaching from early material such as "Cadaverous Mastication" and "Sovereigns Morbidity" through to later recordings including "Demiurge" and "The Last Vigil" from Koloss. The single-track album I occupies side U1 on its own, consistent with the original release's structure.
The included Blu-ray carries fifteen video items, catalogued BD-1 through BD-15. These are a mixture of music videos and studio videos, and together they cover releases across the band's career. Titles include music videos for "Bleed," "Rational Gaze" (in two versions), "I Am Colossus," and "Demiurge," alongside studio videos tied to specific albums including Contradictions Collapse, None, Destroy Erase Improve, Chaosphere, and I.
This draft has not been fact-checked. Track positions, video titles, and album attributions should be verified against physical documentation or a confirmed pressing before publication.
