Alt Om Vinyl

Listening notes

Alt Om Vinyl, released in 2018 on Byens Forlag (catalog number BF001), is a compilation vinyl record bringing together a notably varied roster of artists. Contributors include Michael Denner, Omar (29), Fløjl, Carsten Meinert Kvartet, Bremer/McCoy, Benjamin Koppel, and Joe Lovano, a lineup that spans both jazz and rock, the two genres under which the release is catalogued.

The record contains six tracks spread across two sides. Side A opens with "Fountain Of Grace" at three minutes and forty-two seconds, followed by "Freaks Of The Night" at five minutes and four seconds, and closes with "Nede Ved Søen" at four minutes and three seconds. Side B begins with "Blues To Someone" at four minutes and thirty seconds, continues with a live recording, "I Eet (Live)," at two minutes and fifty-seven seconds, and concludes with "The Unanswered Question," the longest track on the record at eight minutes and thirty-four seconds. The presence of a live track among otherwise undesignated recordings gives the B side a degree of variety in format, if not necessarily in genre.

The combination of jazz and rock artists on a single release is itself a point of interest. Names such as Joe Lovano and Benjamin Koppel sit alongside rock-associated figures like Michael Denner, suggesting the release was conceived as a deliberately cross-genre document rather than a straightforward genre statement. The Byens Forlag label, identified here by its first catalog entry, BF001, issued this as a vinyl format release.

Total playing time across the six tracks amounts to approximately twenty-eight minutes and fifty seconds, placing it within standard LP or extended-play territory depending on the specific pressing configuration.
