Mick Farren And Andy Colquhoun
Black Vinyl Dress

Listening notes

Black Vinyl Dress is a 2013 CD release by Mick Farren and Andy Colquhoun, issued through Gonzo Multimedia under catalog number HST192CD. The release is catalogued under the genres of experimental, garage rock, psychedelic rock, and rock.

The album comprises fourteen tracks with a combined runtime that extends from the brief opener "Black Dogs Circle" at one minute and forty-four seconds through to a closing cover of "Tomorrow Never Knows" that runs five minutes and fifty-four seconds, making it the longest track on the record. The only other track to exceed five minutes is "Cigarettes," clocking in at five minutes and thirty-four seconds. The majority of the remaining tracks fall in the two-to-four minute range, with "I Don't Like It Here" and "AK47" among the shortest at one minute and forty-six seconds and two minutes and one second respectively.

The tracklist includes what appears to be a structural callback in the form of "AK47 (Reprise)," placed at position thirteen, one track before the closing number. Title tracks sharing their name with the album itself appear at position three. Other track titles across the fourteen selections — among them "Cocaine + Gunpowder," "Venus On Her Shell," "The Dark Matter," and "If I Was A Hun On My Pony" — suggest a range of lyrical preoccupations consistent with the experimental and rock genres under which the release is classified.

The closing track, "Tomorrow Never Knows," carries a title identical to the well-known Beatles composition, though no additional information is available here to confirm the precise nature of that track.
