Negative Plane
Et In Saecula Saeculorum

Listening notes

Negative Plane's Et In Saecula Saeculorum was released in 2022 on The Ajna Offensive, cataloged as Flame 29. The release is classified under black metal, death metal, and rock, and arrives on vinyl in a double-LP configuration suggested by its four-sided layout.

The record spreads seven tracks across four sides. Side A opens with the two-part "Intro / The Chaos Before The Light," running eight minutes and forty-five seconds, followed by "Staring Into The Abyss" at eight minutes and one second. Side B is given entirely to a single piece, "A Church In Ruin," which occupies nine minutes and forty-six seconds on its own. Side C carries "Death Mass" at nine minutes and eight seconds and "Unhallowed Ground" at nine minutes and forty-two seconds. Side D closes the record with the comparatively brief "Trance Of The Undead" at two minutes and thirty-six seconds before "Advent Of The Beast" brings the album to a close at seven minutes and twenty-five seconds.

The total runtime across the seven tracks extends well past an hour, a consideration relevant to collectors evaluating how program length is distributed across the four sides. The Latin title, translating loosely to "and in ages of ages" or "forever and ever," aligns with the ecclesiastical and ritualistic imagery suggested by track titles such as "A Church In Ruin," "Death Mass," and "Unhallowed Ground." The Ajna Offensive, the issuing label, has operated as a consistent presence in underground metal releasing since the late 1990s.
