Neutral Milk Hotel
NMH Vinyl Box Set

Listening notes

Released in 2011 on NMH Records (catalog number NMH001), the NMH Vinyl Box Set compiles Neutral Milk Hotel's recorded output across seven vinyl records. The set spans genres cataloged as folk rock, indie rock, psychedelic rock, and rock.

The box set brings together several distinct bodies of work on vinyl. The first two records present the full tracklist of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea across sides A and B, accounting for eleven tracks including "The King of Carrot Flowers Pt. One," "Oh Comely," and "Two-Headed Boy Pt. Two." Sides C and D collect On Avery Island across twelve tracks, among them "Gardenhead / Leave Me Alone," "Three Peaches," and "Naomi." Sides E and F gather eight tracks under the title Ferris Wheel on Fire, including "My Dream Girl Don't Exist" and "A Baby for Pree / Glow Into You." Sides G and H present the Everything Is material, running seven tracks through "Aunt Eggma Blow Torch."

Beyond those four groupings, the set includes three additional records devoted to shorter releases and standalone material. A single-sided record pairs "You've Passed" (4:25) and "Where You'll Find Me Now" (4:40), representing alternate or extended versions distinct from the On Avery Island appearances of those same song titles. A second record presents two versions of "Little Birds" — an unfinished version one running 6:02 and an unfinished version two at 4:36. A third pairs "Holland, 1945" and "Engine."

Across its seven records and more than fifty individual track listings, the set constitutes a substantial physical compilation of Neutral Milk Hotel recordings.
