Eric Orr DJ Robot Control Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 2010 on Serato Pressings, the Eric Orr DJ Robot Control Vinyl (catalog number SCV-AS001) is a functional tool rather than a conventional music release. Classified under the genre designation of Non-Music, the record exists in a category of objects that occupy an unusual position in any vinyl collection or reference database.

The record contains two sides, both titled Serato Control Tone. Side A runs for ten minutes, while Side B extends the runtime to fifteen minutes, bringing the total playback duration to twenty-five minutes. The content on both sides serves a technical purpose consistent with Serato's broader product line, which produces software and hardware for digital DJing. Control tone records of this type are used in conjunction with Serato's DJ software, allowing a turntable to communicate playback data to a computer.

What distinguishes this particular pressing from other Serato control vinyl releases is its association with the Eric Orr DJ Robot, as indicated by the title. The catalog number SCV-AS001 places it within a specific product line under the Serato Pressings label, though the precise nature of that product line or its relationship to other Serato releases is not elaborated by the available data.

Because its content is a control tone rather than recorded music, the record falls outside standard frameworks used to evaluate musical releases. It is cataloged here in the interest of completeness, as reference databases benefit from documenting the full range of vinyl formats, including those produced for technical applications. Collectors and researchers encountering this title should understand that its value and function are tied to a specific technological context rather than to musical performance or artistic content.
