Serato Official Control Vinyl - Performance Series

Listening notes

Released in 2019 on Serato Pressings, the Serato Official Control Vinyl — Performance Series (catalog number CV02.5) is a two-record vinyl release catalogued under the genres Non-Music and Technical. It is a functional tool rather than a conventional music release, designed for use with Serato DJ software.

Each of the two records carries identical content: Side A contains a ten-minute track titled "Serato Control Tone Cv2.5," and Side B contains a fifteen-minute version of the same. The asymmetry in duration between the two sides — ten minutes on A and fifteen on B — means the full usable control signal available per record totals twenty-five minutes across both sides.

The catalog number CV02.5 aligns with the track title's own versioning notation, suggesting this release corresponds to control tone version 2.5 within Serato's product line, though the specific technical distinctions this version may represent relative to other releases are not documented in the available data.

Because the release is classified as Non-Music and Technical, it sits outside the conventional categories by which vinyl records are typically evaluated or discussed. There is no credited artist, no composer, and no conventional song or album structure. The record's function is entirely contingent on its use alongside compatible Serato software and hardware, without which its contents would be perceived simply as an audio tone.

As a reference entry, this release is notable primarily for what it represents within the broader history of DJ technology: a piece of physical media whose purpose is to serve as an interface between analog and digital playback systems. Its inclusion in a vinyl record database reflects the format's continued role in professional DJ practice during the digital era.
