Vinyl Gang Bang

Listening notes

Released in 1989 on Sympathy For The Record Industry, Vinyl Gang Bang carries the catalog number SFTRI 31 and is credited to no artist. The label, founded and operated by Long Gone John, built its reputation across the late 1980s and 1990s as a home for unconventional releases alongside its broader roster of garage, punk, and lo-fi acts, and this release sits within that context as a cataloged entry in the label's output.

The release is classified under the Non-Music genre, a designation that places it outside conventional song-based recordings and signals an intentional departure from standard musical content. Both the A and B sides share the same title, Vinyl Gang Bang, with no durations listed for either side. The symmetry of the two identically titled sides, combined with the absence of any credited performer, are the defining structural facts of this release as documented.

Sympathy For The Record Industry issued material under catalog numbers that ran sequentially, and SFTRI 31 places this release in the label's early period, consistent with 1989 being among the first years of the imprint's activity. The label's willingness to assign formal catalog numbers to Non-Music releases reflects the breadth of what Long Gone John chose to document and distribute under the Sympathy banner.

Beyond its classification, its label home, its year of release, and the shared title carried on both sides, the documented record of Vinyl Gang Bang is sparse. No personnel, no durations, and no additional contextual information are attached to this release in the verified data available. For collectors and researchers engaging with the Sympathy For The Record Industry catalog, it represents a cataloged curiosity from the label's early years, notable primarily for what its own classification openly acknowledges.
