Phish
The Clifford Ball 25th Anniversary Vinyl Box Set

Listening notes

Released in 2022 on Jemp Records (catalog number JEMP1100), The Clifford Ball 25th Anniversary Vinyl Box Set documents Phish's two-day concert event held August 16 and 17, 1996. The set is classified under the genres of alternative rock, experimental, prog rock, psychedelic rock, and rock.

The sheer scope of the tracklist reflects the ambition of the original event. Spread across sides A through X, the box set captures four sets per day, each followed by an encore, preserving the full arc of both performances in sequence. Day One opens with "Chalk Dust Torture" and "Bathtub Gin" in the first set and moves through a second set anchored by "Mike's Song," "Simple," "Contact," and "Weekapaug Groove." A third set on August 16 includes "Down With Disease," "Life On Mars," "Harry Hood," and closes with "Amazing Grace" as the encore.

Day Two, beginning on side M, opens its first set with "Old Home Place" and works through titles including "Reba," "The Lizards," "Taste," and "Maze." The second set spans sides Q through T, containing "Fluffhead," "Run Like An Antelope," and "Slave To The Traffic Light," among others. The final set of the event moves through "Wilson," "Frankenstein," "Tweezer," "A Day In The Life," and "Possum" before closing with "Tweezer Reprise" and an encore performance of "Harpua."

With sides running from A through X, the release represents a substantial vinyl undertaking. The tracklist alone — spanning dozens of individual titles across multiple records — makes the physical format a notable document of the original two-day program.
